Benefits of Using Electronic Health Records.
The tremendous growth in technological innovation has affected every sector in the world today; hence everything revolves around digital data. Efficiency in maintaining health records is now at its best thanks to an electronic health record. The basic benefit of using electronic health records in hospitals is the convenience of accessing data. Because of the nature of the healthcare industry, it took longer to shift to a digital-based system compared to other sectors. Today, most patients are now used to seeing doctors put notes into a computer when they visit hospitals. The timely clinical access of health record have improved efficiency in diagnoses and consequently, better patient’s outcomes. To realize the full benefits of electronic medical records in hospitals, all health centers must strive to transition into a fuller EHR model. Besides being able to feed necessary patient information into the electronic medical record system, hospitals should be able to use that information when managing the patients’ care at all levels. When hospitals transitions into fuller EHR systems, clinicians and patients will realize various advantages as discussed below.
Monitoring of patient information is made more accessible. Regarding a patient record, there is a lot of information that has to be maintained, such as the patient’s blood type, current medication, blood type and allergies. This information is very critical when a patient is being diagnosed. It can be challenging to monitor a patient’s data using the paper-based system, and it also consumes a lot of time. In some cases, the patient’s conditions become very critical, and tracking of patient history has to be done in the shortest time possible. This might not be possible with the paper-based system because the physician has to peruse through a pile of papers. It is easier to track a patient’s information using the electronic health record. Regardless of their locations, multiple care providers can be able to access the information of patients at the same time using an EHR system. Also, the care provider will be able to see other physician’s recommendations, be able to access past and present information thanks to the electronic health record. The electronic health care has enhanced a more collaborative multiple facets of patient’s care.
Patient’s data can be transferred faster. Exchange of patient’s data information is very critical through the different facets of a patient’s care. Electronic health record has enhanced efficiency in the transfer of patient’s data between the different caregivers. Electronic health record has yielded improved results management compared to the paper-based system. The electronic medical record has yielded more positive results; hence patients and caregivers have reacted positively to the new system.
Electronic health record has tremendously transformed hospitals into more efficient facilities.
